About Picture Postbox

Picture Postbox is a social network for photographers, painters, graphic designers, and other canvas/digital artists. Unlike other image sharing networks, Picture Postbox is not just intended to be a place to host files. Instead the site concentrates more on bringing artists together, giving people all over the world a chance to show their work to other artists, to get immediate feedback from those in the same field, and to build relationships with similar minded people.

If you're not interested in the social benefits on offer, don't be put off! Picture Postbox's intuitive gallery engine also makes this a great place to host your albums for friends and family, even if you're not an artist. You get your very own, easy to remember web address, and hotlinking to individual images is allowed.

History

Richard Grant started writing software in 1996 at the age of 10. In 2001 he began designing websites and soon adapted his skills as a programmer to develop web based software. In 2005 he launched QWeb, a web development business specialising in standards compliant, accessible websites.

In May 2007 Richard was given a digital SLR camera for his 21st birthday and soon developed an interest in photography. With this new found interest, a strong background in web design and development, amateur photographers for parents, and the need for somewhere simple to host photographs, Picture Postbox was born in November 2007.

The site immediately proved to be a useful tool for Richard and his parents, and a tidy place for his fiancee to host general images. The design proved less intuitive than expected though, and display issues with Internet Explorer prevented global popularity. In October 2008, almost a year after launch, QWeb developed Picture Postbox version 2 with a more intuitive design, new social features, and a friendlier interface.
